We appreciate your interest in Firearms. Our goal of the organization is to provide a community for other like-minded enthusiasts. We provide an opportunity for others to develop their skills, passion, and knowledge of Firearms. We are always open to new ideas or suggestions to help us meet the goals of the organization.

The Junior Shooter program seeks to develop the competitive shooting skills of our youth members. We have been fortunate to help many youth members develop their passion for firearms and go on to compete at a high level. We also have a Lady’s Shooter program which helps teach self-defense, develop their skills, and have fun with other like-minded women.

For questions about these, or any other programs we offer Contact Us.

What is the CMP?

The CMP is The Office of the Director of Civilian Marksmanship, an agency of the United States Army. The CMP was established in 1903 by an Act of Congress, which requires the Secretary of the Army to promote marksmanship training of U.S. citizens who are not in active military services, although active military personnel are eligible to participate. The CMP Emeritus is an active duty Army Colonel who manages the Civilian Marksmanship Program for the Assistant Secretary of the Army, who is head of the 25 member National Board for the Promotion of Rifle Practice (NBPRP). The NBPRP is made up of senior military officers and civilians active in the field of marksmanship.

The goals of the Civilian Marksmanship Program are threefold and include the following:

  1. To train young people of military recruitment age and earlier in the fundamentals of marksmanship and firearms safety, thus giving them a head start in basic training.
  2. To provide a pool of civilian marksmanship instructors who can augment military instructors in the time of a national defense emergency.
  3. To provide support- with government surplus firearms, ammunition, and target material- for affiliated clubs and state associations or youth groups (i.e. Boy Scouts, 4-H, etc.) that have active programs for rifle completion and training.

So What’s All This To Me?

The CMP sponsors state and local clubs to further the goals of the CMP program on the state and local levels. The clubs are issued rifles, targets, and ammunition to be used in training and competition

During the late fall Rapid City Rifle Club sponsors a junior shooting program. The program is designed to teach young shooters safety guidelines, proper firearms handling procedures, basic techniques of the different positions, and set goals to develop a discipline to advance shooters into competitive shooting. The training begins with pellet rifles for 8-12 year olds and .22 LR fo 13-19 year olds.

How Do I Participate?

The Rapid City Rifle Club is enrolled with the CMP and is also NRA affiliated. The club emphasizes training, competition, and just plain fun target shooting. Our current goal is to increase family participation and junior training skills. Our present emphasis is on training the young people on safe, recreational and competitive shooting with a goal of sending them to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado. Our season runs November thru April with several matches both local and State wide. The club provides programs in pellet (Beginners), .22 rifle and.22 pistol.

We also have a Winter Adult .22 Pistol League.

The Program also offer competitive opportunities through USA Shooting which National Olympic Shooting Program.

The Rapid City Rifle Club has been operating for twenty years and are affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program, National Rifle Association, SD Shooting Sport Association, US Shooting Sport Association and are a state non-profit corporation. We value our 2nd Amendment right to ‘keep and bear arms’ and are passionate about passing this on to the next generation of shooters. We feel that it is extremely important to preserve these values since they will follow in our footsteps and we want to keep shooting alive for future generations.

Our main public activities have been hosting local Gun Shows, facilitating a robust Youth Shooting program, and offering Adult Shooting opportunities.

The Rapid City Rifle Club and Junior Division is the non-profit 501c incorporation. The Rapid City Firearms (RCFA) is the part of our organization that runs the guns shows and then contributes all proceeds to the RC Rifle Club Inc. in order to support the shooting programs and build towards the goal of constructing our own marksmanship academy. If you are interested in making a cash donation or gift a firearm to the Rapid City Rifle Club, we are classified as a 501c and can produce a tax receipt.

Our Gun Shows are held to help fund club programs and activities such as the Junior Pellet and Junior .22 programs.  They also help us sponsor sending youth shooters to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado.  Each year the club puts on two Gun Shows, and provides security for a third.  We typically have between 120 to 150 vendors at each show.  The Gun Shows are held at the Rushmore Civic Center and we have been sponsoring them for the past 12 years.

The purpose of the club sponsorship is to promote a positive image of gun ownership and relevance of proper training to the use of firearms. We bring vendors and the public together in a show setting that allows for a connection to be formed to exchange products and knowledge in the hobby and interest that many people have.

The Gun Shows provide and opportunity for the local community to buy or sell firearms and/or firearm accessories. Accessories include things like ammo, gun accessories, war memorabilia, reloading equipment, hunting apparel, and more.  In addition, the Gun Shows provide members of the local community with the opportunity to meet and make connections with suppliers and others with similar interests.  We invite everyone to take part in the gun shows.  It is a great opportunity to see the variety of people who participate, it’s a great opportunity for family’s to spend time together and learn, connect with Veterans, and share stories with other hunters. The Gun Shows also offer an opportunity to learn more about self-defense.

Whether you are looking for a bargain, an opportunity to sell, or just a fun way to spend the afternoon be sure to stop by our next Gun Show.
